Hill quickest ahead of Pearson in opening Silverstone BTCC practice
During the 40-minute practice session, the BMW driver set a lap time of 57.622s while running with his teammate Colin Turkington. Despite teams and drivers focusing on finding the best setup, Hill’s lap time remained unbeaten, with Pearson from EXCELR8 Hyundai coming in second. Hill still has a chance to win this season’s BTCC drivers’ title, but he would need to overcome a 62-point deficit to the current leader, Ash Sutton. The Power Maxed Racing duo of Taylor-Smith and Doble had a strong start, setting the third and fourth fastest times in their Vauxhall Astras. Turkington, a four-time champion, finished in fifth place, ahead of Sutton’s NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus in sixth. The current championship leader, Sutton, holds a substantial 42-point lead over reigning champion Tom Ingram, who was ninth fastest in the practice session. Ricky Collard from Toyota and Adam Morgan from Team BMW rounded out the top eight. Rory Butcher secured the tenth fastest time.
